Hey EK fans, with spring and summer seasons comes the feeling of freeness and lazy days strolling in the park. This carefree attitude goes perfect with one of the prominent fashion trends of this year’s warmer seasons: tie-dye. Though tie-dye has, and still is to a certain extent, been seen as a style of the hippie subculture, designers have revamped the craft to create luxury garments with a boho-chic edge.
Designers such as Michael Kors, Oscar de la Renta, and Jason Wu are among the many designers leading the tie-dye fashion trend. Oscar de la Renta has used tie-dye in several of his pieces this season. The fashion house creates a wonderful mélange of elegance and freshness by way of their impeccable sophisticated draping in combination with the youthful and haphazard tie-dye pattern.
The best part about this fashion trend, if you’re crafty and up for the challenge, is that you can create your own garments, and express your personal style while being up to date with the latest fashion. All you need is a garment to be dyed (preferably white), rubber bands, vinegar, and fabric dye that can be found at almost any grocery, fabric, or craft store. The process is simple. First, twist and fold the garment in whatever way you want, and hold them in place with rubber bands. These twists and folds will be the print of the garment. Next mix your dye as directed on the box. After the dye is prepared, dip the garment into the dye several times to ensure the fabric fully absorbs the dye. Finally, place the garment in a mixture of half vinegar and half water, and leave overnight. The next day the garment will be ready to be washed (note: wash the garment by itself so the dye does not bleed into other garments), and worn to the park. You’ll be wearing fashion forward pieces in no time!
Until next time, peace be with you EK fans!
